When to use it

A rival (라이벌) is a person or team that competes with you and also wants to win. In school, a rival can be a classmate who studies hard like you or another school you often compete against. We use this word when two people or groups try to do better than each other.

1. 우리 반에서 민수는 내 라이벌이야.

   In our class, Minsu is my rival.

2. 옆 학교는 우리 학교의 라이벌이야.

   The school next to us is our school's rival.

3. 나는 수학 시험에서 라이벌을 이기고 싶어.
