Honorific subject — -(으)시-, 계시다
Use these when the subject is a respected person.
When to use
- Subject is older / teacher / boss
- Not for yourself (I X)
-(으)시- (add respect)
Add -시- inside the verb
- 가요 → 가세요
- 먹어요 → 드세요 (special word)
- 있어요 → 있으세요
계시다 (polite 있다)
계시다 = polite “있다” (for a respected person)
- 선생님 계세요. (teacher is here)
- 어디에 계세요? (where are you?)

- 할머니가 주무세요. (sleep)
